“ At the beginning of 2024, I was diagnosed with heart complications from the heart institute and I was later referred to the Gulu Heart institute where I became a regular patient, it was impossible for me to climb stairs/steps, however after the training from CASCADE, I changed my eating habits and adopted healthier eating practices and my general health condition changed and I am able to do things that I wasn’t able to do. We should adopt and put to use, the knowledge we all received from our trainings.”

WNSP, with support from CARE International, implemented a Farmer Field Business School (FFBS) initiative. The selected schools—St. Katharine Girls’ Secondary School with enrolment of 1,300 students, Dr. Obote College with enrolment of 1,200 students, and Lira Town College with enrolment of 2,500 students—were chosen due to their large enrolments (especially female students), and the availability of sufficient acres of land for cultivation. All schools are in Lira City East Division. The objective of the FFBS initiative is to equip participants (students) with skills to enhance agricultural production, build climate resilience, and diversify diets.
At St. Catherine Senior Secondary School, one of the schools where the FFBS demo is being implemented, many students adopted the methodology for their homes, because many parents who came to the school for visitation day promised to adopt the technology in their homesteads. WNSP believes that this will go a long way in addressing the issue of food security and malnutrition in the communities.
