“With the training and inspiration I received I gained the confidence to stand before my fellow teens to the extent that when my leader asked me to become the girls’ youth leader, I gladly accepted.”
– Collins

Youth are the next generation of Uganda’s leaders, mothers, fathers and teachers! Youth make up the largest percentage of Uganda’s population (youth in Uganda are the youngest population in the world, with 77% of its population being under 25 years of age), so empowering them morally and spiritually to be responsible, wise and God-fearing citizens is crucial for the future.
We’d like to introduce you to Collins, a youth had a lot to say about the recent Home Management Conference (HMC) for youth empowerment.
“I had a problem of standing before a big crowd because of low self-esteem” says Collins a youth of Ti-idiro a new group in Adyel division in Lira municipality. Prior to the conference she thought to herself that she is young and can’t do anything to impact her fellow youth especially the female youth in her community. After attending the HMC last year with the different training opportunities on leadership she began to develop a greater confidence to stand up in front of others and share her passion.
Collins said she had been hearing about the impact HMC but had not attended until last year her group members encouraged her to go for the conference. At the conference, Collins was amazed by the different teachings given by seasoned leaders and trainers. She decided that she will attend this conference annually to inspire and instruct her in developing her gifts and leadership skills.
In the conference she got spiritual encouragement and training on nutrition, as well as some mentoring from successful, godly women.
Collins says with the training and inspiration she received she gained the confidence to stand before her fellow teens to the extent that when her leader asked her to become the girls’ youth leader, she gladly accepted. With this new position she has been able to advise girls on morals and values and guide the young girls to seek advice and help from elders when they find themselves in difficult situations. She is also enrolling girls in village saving groups to plan for their future by starting small income generating businesses.
She is so grateful to WNSP for organizing the annual HMC, as it has changed the lives of so many youth and the community at large.
