Mary Okello (seen in the picture above on the right) is one of the founders of Obanga-Kica women’s saving and loan group. She supports the group as an accountant by auditing the books at the end of the year.
When the group started in 2018 it had a membership of 15 people an savings that year was 6,000,000 Lira. Last year, in 2023 after just 5 years the group saved 75,000,000 Lira, with the membership of 80 members. The group has now divided into 3 small groups of about 26 members and the saving has helped so many families. As a Founder, she is proud to see women raise up their self-esteem and have decision making in communities all leading to improved livelihoods. She says: “We give thanks to WNSP for supporting women in Lira city!”
